LUFTHANSA AIRBUS A320-214(WL) ECONOMY CLASS REVIEW

Watch out ladies and gentlemen because this was not just a normal flight, there was an exclusive but unfortunately a bit too short air to air meeting with a Boeing 757-300ER of Condor. There I had the opportunity to take one of my best pictures ever!

After Christmas, on 27th December 2017, I had the honour to visit my relatives in Kiev so I travelled to Ukraine to celebrate New Year`s Eve there.

THE AIRPORT:

I flew from my home-airport Munich Intl. in Bavaria in Southern Germany to Kiev Boryspil Intl., the capital of Ukraine.

Munich, Europe`s one and only 5-star Airport, the second-busiest airport in Germany and the world’s 15th-busiest airport in terms of international passenger traffic. It is named after former Bavarian minister-president Franz Josef Strauss.

The airport deserves its 5 stars: the clarity, cleanliness and pleasant atmosphere thanks to the high roofs especially in the new Terminal 2 guarantee the passenger absolute well-being and allow a fast transport of many passengers without longer queues.

Lufthansa A350-900 about to depart

For the gourmet-lovers Munich Airport offers on 43’000 square meters over 60 restaurants. From Bavarian specialities up to a classic salad, everyone will be served.

Beside that you will be able to find multiple lounges at MUC. Some airline & also some contract lounges, perfect for relaxation. Lufthansa, Emirates, BA & Air France KLM are operating lounges in Munich. All other airlines can use one of the 3 contract lounges.

THE AIRCRAFT:

Crossing the road over a bridge to the runway, spotters territorium…

Today I am flying D-AIUV, an A320 with winglets, which looks a lot cooler than the normal A320 without winglets in my opinion. It was delivered 2 years ago on 16th June 2016 to Lufthansa and offers 168 seats. Normally Lufthansa is offering around 28 Business & more or less 126 seats. Though this is subject to changes, as they could make a bigger Business or a bigger Economy Class. The Lufthansa logo on the winglet has a pretty classy look and interesting pictures can be taken. I prefer to fly on winglet/sharklet aircrafts.

THE FLIGHT & CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Wonderful colors upon departure

After banking out of Munich Airport we had a fantastic view into the Alps with interesting cloud layers.

Magic view over the alps with lake Chiemsee

Soon the crew started with the drinks and food service. I got water and a Coca Cola with ice & a sandwich which I did not eat because it was with butter and cheese, something I do not really like. In the past there used to be lot more choice and you received a different sandwich on every flight. I assume this is what they call “saving measures”. Back in the time you could get pizza pieces or other snacks… Something really disappointing nowadays.

Enjoying a cup of water in the skies!

Nevertheless, the view was simply unbeatable, I had a free seat next to me and the legroom was also good for this short flight. Then, I saw a white streak on the horizon flying very fast towards us: a Condor Airlines Boeing 757-300ER crossed us just a few feet below with massive contrails!

Looking out of the window is always worth it! I was able to shot incredible pictures on this flight:

After 2.5 hours we started the descent into Kiev.

THE ARRIVAL:

While descending we could enjoy a beautiful sunset before disappearing under the cloud soup. The view was just mesmerizing.

After a butter-soft landing it was time to enjoy Kiev!
